The Sentinel

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

2006
(aka "The Really Starting to Fade Year")

The beginning of 2006 brought both good and bad news for my TS fic-writing.  My personal situation was settling down, which left me in a better position to write -- but it also marked the end of my monofannish-ness.  I'd never truly managed to write in more than one fandom at a time but was rather "serially monofannish" when it came to writing and primary fandom.  But that was before I started watching House, M.D. ... Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, both my production of TS fic & House fic fell away to almost nothing in the second half of the year...

SUGGESTION: If you aren't familiar with my work and you haven't read my overview of what I do and don't write, you might want to do that.  Stories are rated but not typed as gen, pre-slash, slash, etc.
NOTE: Please heed the ratings and do not access stories that you are not legal to view in your jurisdiction.
PLEA: Feedback! I love it, even if it's just a generic one-liner saying you liked the stuff (or disliked, whatever, be honest! :-) ), so please consider dropping me a note.
The Stories
(as chronologically written, oldest at top, in the following form:
[Title]  [Rating]  [Length]
[Challenge {where appropriate}. Description/Warnings/General Rambling.] )
  • Better Late Than Never      PG-13      ~ 1216 words

Better late than never. This piece embodied the challenge, in that it was a response to a challenge from June 2005 posted in January 2006. :-) I tend to think of this as the phantom beans story, and it always gives me a smile -- hopefully it will do the same for you. :-)

  • Sentinel Canon       PG      60 syllables

The whole title is actually a haiku: Sentinel Canon/both a blessing and a curse/much loved regardless. It's the lead-in to 5 more haiku that address "Sentinel canon," in answer to Wave 5 of Sentinel Secrets, which also tied in to the Sentinel 10th Anniversary Bash.

  • Blame It on the Alligator (Hurt, Comfort, Reptiles, & Romance Remix)       PG-13      26KB

My one foray into the remix world, a spin on tommyboybbi's Blame it on the Meds done for Remix...Redux IV.

  • Bedtime Stories       PG      696 words

The end. The first Sentinel Thursday response to a challenge actually made in 2006... the first of only *four*. The end of a long and atypical day at 852 Prospect.

  • Barbados       R      23KB

A story with a long history, which ended up as my offering to Calic0cat for the Katrina Auction. With thanks to _suziq_ and feikoi for reading it over for me, and everyone who offered encouragement along the painful way...

  • Catalyst       R      350 words

Underwear. Takes place early in their association.

  • Goldilocks       R      1756 words

It seemed like a good idea at the time. Yet another sleep deprivation story. It might work better if you yourself are sleep-deprived, as I was when I wrote it...

  • Squirming       NC-17      434 words

Quivering with -- even though when I wrote it I was misremembering the prompt as being "squirming." :-) What I said as Sentinel Thursday: But I was so fascinated with the idea of a 400-word, adult, kinky, dialog-only fic that I didn't worry about it. :-) Big thanks to carodee for pointing out what I needed to add, and how I could fit 'quivering' in there as well! :-)

  • Signs       G      ~444 words

Wreath. The first of my entries for the Drabble Days at TS Secret Santa on LJ. I wanted to write a repsonse for each Drabble Day, but between the holiday stress & work & not really writing much anymore anyway & actually running the community itself, I didn't manage all of them...

  • Snarking All the Way       G      ~336 words

Jingle Bells. The first of my 2006 & 2007 Drabble Days entries featuring Jim really getting peeved about Christmas songs, though I have no idea why...

  • (I can't think of one that fits the pattern :-) )       G      412 words

The Holly and the Ivy. This is what I said on the piece for the Drabble Day: "This piece follows "Romancing the Snow" (from the snow challenge) which follows "Snarking All the Way" (from the Jingle Bells challenge). However, no one has seen 'R the S' because it wasn't done in time for the Drabble Day, but all you need to know is that it is revealed that Jim & Blair are in an established relationship. And if it actually gets finished you can fill in the missing piece as part of the Free-for-All. :-)." However, that piece never *did* get finished... maybe for the 2008 TS Holiday Party. :-)

  • Celebration       G      464 words

Menorah. Not the piece I'm happiest with in the world or anything, but without it there would have only been one entry for this Drabble Day, so...

  • Deck Those Halls       PG      200 words

Deck the Halls. Very silly Drabble Days double-drabble.

  • Discourse       G      320 words

Yule Log. Another somewhat silly Drabble Days entry, and the very last thing of the year...
